Feeling Stronger

Last week was hard.  I had the flu (the same day I got the flu shot, of course!), and my blood pressure was too high.  Not sure yet if the blood pressure was from the flu or from the Celebrex, but I stopped taking the Celebrex per the doctor's orders.

I am now taking Plaquenil which is a drug that helps "turn down" my immune system, so that it's not always so over-active.  It does have some side effects, but I am being diligent about managing those and the benefits outweigh the risks, at least for me they do.

I am hopeful.  I'm feeling less sick and starting to get past the flu.  I'm also starting to see that while Lupus will be something I will always have to manage, that I am strong and I can manage it and enjoy life.  There is so much in life to enjoy.  This week was a big test.  Sometimes those moments are good because it's in those moments when I really connect with my faith.  I believe that God gave me Lupus for a reason, and I'm not going to waste that opportunity.

I have always believed that the kindest, most empathetic people with the strongest faith are those who have faced adversity.  My mom, who was one of the strongest people I know told me that her strength came from facing challenges in life.  She always wanted me to have a happy life free of illness, but I know she would want me to use this as a way to learn and grow stronger, and as a way to do things to help others.

No Rain, No Rainbow.  Isn't that the truth?!

and just a cute little picture of the best little furry friend who always makes me smile...

Hope you all are safe this weekend...there's ANOTHER snow storm coming! eek!
